This is a demonstration site. Sonora is not a real restaurant. The menu, the prices, the address and the phone number on this site are all invented, and no real orders are taken here. What we are aiming for
We want the menu and the checkout to work for people who order with a keyboard, a screen reader or a magnifier. The standard we build to is WCAG 2.1 at level AA, and we check the ordering pages against it with automated tools and by going through an order from the keyboard.
Where the site falls short today
The ordering pages can be used from the keyboard: you can move through the menu, open a dish, choose its options with the arrow keys and the space bar, add it to your order, change quantities, leave a note, choose pickup or delivery, add a tip and place the order without a mouse. Every control shows a visible outline when you reach it.
One thing is still short of where we want it. The drawer that slides in when you open a dish or your order takes the focus when it opens and gives it back when it closes, but it does not hold the focus inside itself while it is open and the Escape key does not close it, so tabbing far enough will take you into the page behind it. That belongs to the ordering software this site runs on and the fix has to come from the people who make it; we have reported it. The card payment form is Stripe’s own and we do not control what is inside it.
We check this with an automated keyboard audit that goes through the menu, both drawers, the checkout and the receipt at phone and desktop sizes every week, and by ordering food from the keyboard by hand.
